Jewish Studies Department

The Jewish Studies program at the Middle School is responsible for generating a curriculum of Jewish studies and for creating a Jewish spirit for the entire School environment. In partnership with the High School, the Middle School Jewish Studies program has four major goals:

  • The discovery and practice of Jewish values and ideals

  • The development of an understanding, respect, and identification with Jewish history, holidays, life-cycle events, and prayer

  • The enhancements of textual skills and critical thinking to facilitate independence in the learning of Jewish classical texts

  • The integration of hesed projects into the lives of students in the classroom and beyond.

The core curriculum consists of two year-long courses which help lay the foundation for the text courses students will encounter in the High School. While the language of instruction for each is English, texts may be studied in Hebrew or in English.
