English Department

The English Department provides all Milken students with the capacities to write effectively, read sensitively, speak convincingly, and engage all aspects of the discipline imaginatively. The Department is committed to the study of literature and the exercise of language as the cornerstones of a liberal education that itself has intrinsic value, serving to liberate the student's mind and soul, and to create the capacity for civil and informed discourse within the immediate and broader community. 

In the context of Milken’s commitment to a pluralistic vision, the pursuit of understanding divergent views and the ability to read all forms of experience represent the essential origins of a young person’s emergence as an artist of life, fully competent to live a soulful, committed, intelligent life.
